Year 3 - Greater Green Triangle PRCC

AboutStaffPracticesStudentsContacts

The Parallel Rural Community Curriculum (PRCC) program in the Greater Green Triangle (GGT) began in 2002. It is modeled on the highly successful program in the Riverland. The excellent results achieved each year indicate that the Greater Greeen Triangle offers the same rich environment for medical education.

The GGT PRCC staff are based in Mount Gambier in a new purpose built facility opened in June 2007. Students are based in medical practices in Mount Gambier and Millicent in South Australia and Hamilton in Western Victoria.

In our GGT PRCC program we work towards the following aims:

  • To strive for academic excellence in the GGT PRCC.
We offer you a team of enthusiastic GP and resident specialist teachers, and an endless supply of clinical exposure.
  • To provide students in the GGT with all necessary and appropriate support to facilitate an optimal learning environment.
We provide housing, a student study centre in each clinic, a laptop computer and fast internet access for each student.
  • To strive for high quality, accountable and transparent program management.

We want students who are interested at having a try at being immersed in rural life and who are prepared to contribute to a General Practice team.

So whether you have a rural background or not, if you want a rural experience where you will be genuinely nurtured for a year - try us!

Student accommodation

In 2008 a Community Contacts Program was established to provide PRCC students with support from members of the rural communities in which they are based.

MOUNT GAMBIER GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Location: 450 kms South East of Adelaide
  • Population: 25,000
  • Councils: City of Mount Gambier Council

Mount Gambier is the second largest city in South Australia and is the centre of the thriving SA South East region, set in a unique and ancient landscape of volcanic craters, lakes, caves and mysterious underground waterways.

See the famous Blue Lake with its mysterious change of colour in the summer months to an intensity of blue which defies description, the startling beauty of the nearby Tantanoola and Princes Margaret Rose Caves, the lush wine growing district of Coonawarra and the fascinating sinkholes which attract scuba divers from all over Australia. Not far away is the rugged coastline of Port MacDonnell and Cape Northumberland, the picturesque quiet serenity of the Glenelg River at Nelson.

The prosperity of the City and the surrounding district is exemplified in a rich and varied agricultural industry of beef, sheep, dairying and crops and a multi-million dollar softwoods industry involving a variety of large forestry plantations including milling through to final timber production.

Located midway between Adelaide and Melbourne makes it the ideal place to explore the Coorong, the Limestone Coast, Warrnambool and the Great Ocean Road, and the Grampians in Victoria.
